This honeyeater occurs in northern Vanuatu. A survey saw small groups in flowering trees in large forest tracts on Malakula and Vanua Lava. Insects were found in the stomachs of the three specimens examined.
It is a brown-and-white bird with a finely speckled face and a downcurved black bill.
During the survey, groups of about 3–10 birds used flowering trees in large forests on Malakula and Vanua Lava. On Vanua Lava, flocks were especially noisy at dawn and dusk.
