Nelson's woodrat is a rare rodent recorded around the Oriental Basin of central Mexico. Its few known records include different environments, from forest to dry low hills.
The dorsal fur is cinnamon-colored, with a cinnamon-colored patch on the chest. The tail is nearly uniform in color.
The few specimens have been collected in tropical rainforest, mountain sites with cloud forest and coffee plantations, and dry volcanic hills among xeric shrubs and cacti. These varied vegetation records are all around the Oriental Basin.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
