This lark inhabits dry shrublands in South Africa. It walks on the ground and searches around shrub bases for seeds, insects, and other food.
Adults have sandy upperparts, a broad white eye-ring edged by a dark stripe, and streaked flanks. Males are larger but otherwise similar; juveniles show pale feather tips that make the upperparts look spotted.
It forages on the ground in open sandy shrubland, coastal strandveld, and Karroid dwarf shrubland, probing or digging around shrub bases for seeds, insects, and berries.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
