This mouse lives in Myanmar's central basin. A 2007 study reported that it can be locally abundant in rain-fed rice fields.
Specimens in the redescription had soft, pale grayish-brown dorsal fur with fine, translucent flexible spines that are not obvious to the touch. The underside was pale gray; the cheeks were white, with a distinct ginger-colored ring around the eye.
The 2007 paper reports that the species can be locally abundant in rain-fed rice-field habitat in central Myanmar. The basin once held a mosaic of evergreen and deciduous monsoon forests, but much of it has since been cleared for cultivation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
