This toucanet lives in humid forest from Honduras to Panama and searches for fruit and small animals in high branches.
The male has a long yellow patch behind the eye. The female lacks this cheek patch; both sexes have black throat and breast areas and orange sides of the belly.
It favors the upper canopy of humid rainforest and forages in middle and upper vegetation. The ACG account lists fruit, lizards, frogs, and insects, and notes pairs or small groups.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
