This flying squirrel occurs on the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, and Java. In Singapore it is also recorded in nature reserves; it glides among trees after leaving a tree hole at night.
The upperparts are dark brown, while the underside is orange-buff or whitish. Rusty brown fringes the gliding membrane between its limbs.
It occurs in primary and secondary forest, orchards, and plantations. It rests in tree holes by day and feeds on fruit and insects at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
