The rusty-bellied brush-furred rat is recorded in West Africa. A coastal Guinea study examined whether it may move from forest and orchards into cultivated land seasonally.
Collected specimens were described as black to reddish-brown above, pale ochre below, with somewhat stiff fur.
In a one-year study in coastal Guinea, this species and another mouse were inferred to possibly move from forest and orchards into cultivated land near the end of the rainy season.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
