The Western Bluebill is a small finch with black-and-red males and brown-and-red females. It feeds on seeds and fruits in forests and at woodland edges from West to Central Africa.
Males have a glossy black head and upperparts with red underparts. Females have dusky-red facial areas, brownish-black upperparts, a red rump and underparts, and black-and-white spotting on the lower belly.
It uses forests, gallery forest, edges, and clearings. Its diet includes berries, grass seeds, rice, palm fruit husks, and insects; it builds a ball-shaped nest with a side entrance in a bush.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
