The forest muskshrew is a small shrew found in forests across Central Africa.
Specimens from Nigeria and Cameroon measured 83–92 mm in head-and-body length and weighed 16–21 g.
Typical S. ollula is associated with lowland forest in southern Cameroon. At two undisturbed forest sites in southwestern Gabon, its trap success varied seasonally and was lowest around the long dry season.
