The Barred Rail occurs in the Philippines and Indonesia and uses wet grassland and wetlands. Its short cocked tail and rufous chest band help identify it.
The back is olive-brown, with black-and-white bars from the throat through the underparts. A rufous chest band and bold white facial stripe stand out.
It favors damp, marshy grassland up to about 1,000 m and often gives a loud, harsh croaking chorus.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
