This ground dove ranges from islands off northeastern New Guinea through the Solomon Islands. Some taxonomies treat these eastern birds as a group within the Bronze Ground Dove.
In the eastern group, adult males have a pale gray head, neck and breast, a black belly band, and rufous-brown wings. The lesser coverts have a maroon sheen, and the tail carries a rufous band. Females are browner overall and lack the male’s maroon shoulder color. A broad white eye-ring is especially noticeable in birds on New Britain.
Birds in the eastern group use mainly primary and old-growth forest and forage on the ground. They are usually seen alone or in pairs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
