Bucanetes githagineus is a finch of arid regions. A Spanish specialist encyclopedia describes breeding-plumage males and females separately and records seasonal food examples.
A male in breeding plumage has a pink-red bill, pale gray head, and brown back with pink tones. The female is sand-colored.
It uses desert and steppe, rocky ground, and sparsely vegetated slopes where water is available. In Almería, records show it eating crucifer seeds in the breeding season and Anabasis articulata seeds in winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
