The Australasian Gannet is a seabird that eats fish and squid, plunging into the sea to catch prey. Juvenile plumage differs markedly from adult plumage.
Adults have a white body, dusty-yellow crown, dark flight feathers and a long pale-grey bill. Juveniles are mottled grey-brown and lighten each year.
It eats fish and squid, catching prey by plunge-diving from above. Air sacs in the lower neck help cushion the impact on entering the water.
In adults, the central tail feathers are black and the outer tail feathers are white. The black strip below the bill is confined to the base of the chin.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
