This manakin occurs in the lowlands of northern South America. At one study site in northern Venezuela it was observed in seasonally flooded forest and white-sand scrub woodland.
Males have deep green upperparts, a yellow central crown stripe, a dark chestnut breast, and a white throat with long side plumes. Females lack the yellow crown stripe and have a gray throat patch. Both sexes have a dark gray cheek patch.
In 1990 it was observed around Campamento Camani in seasonally flooded várzea forest, riparian forest along blackwater streams, and scrub woodland on white-sand soils.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
