Athenarian Burrowing Anemone
Nematostella vectensis
This small sea anemone burrows in soft mud. After it is split in two, the oral side regrows missing parts within five to six days.[2][3]
Appearance
In the oral fragment, the pharynx reforms and the tentacles elongate during regeneration.[2]
Life
It burrows in soft mud and moves through the sediment of salt marshes and creeks. Ciliary movement on the oral disc and tentacles helps it travel through mud.[3]
Williams described English populations under 2 cm long living in soft mud in salt marshes and creeks.[3]
