This shrew was described from a specimen collected in Kashmir. A later specialist review notes unresolved taxonomy among closely related small Sorex shrews.
The original description compared its body color with Sorex minutus, noted that it is less diminutive, and described a broader rostrum and interorbital region.
The cited sources confirm an adult male collected at Dachin in Kashmir; this single specimen does not establish general behavior.
