Crossley's dwarf lemur is nocturnal and lives in humid forests of eastern and northern Madagascar. Its reddish-brown body contrasts with dark fur around the eyes and ears.
The upper body is reddish brown and the underside is paler. Dark eye rings and black furry ears are distinctive.
It moves through trees on all fours and rests by day in nests or tree holes. During the dry season it may enter prolonged dormancy underground.
