Mindanao Batomys has dark chestnut fur, with variation in the color of its underside. It has been recorded in montane and mossy forests in the Philippines, with most recorded captures occurring at night or around dawn and dusk.
In comparison with related species, its fur is sleek and dark chestnut brown; the underside varies from grayish brown to pale reddish orange. Long superciliary whiskers can reach about 45 mm and extend beyond the ears.
At Mt Kitanglad, nearly all captures with a recorded time occurred at night or at twilight, often in ground traps under root tangles or rotting logs. Stomachs of 19 individuals contained plant material and no worm or arthropod fragments.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
