The White-winged Woodpecker occurs in Central Asia, including Kyrgyzstan. Breeding-plumage males have a red nape mark, and the local account describes nesting in tree cavities in Kyrgyzstan.
A male in breeding plumage has a red nape mark and white wing patches. Females lack the red nape mark.
In Kyrgyzstan it uses riverine woodland and lowland saxaul woodland, among other habitats, and nests in tree cavities. Both parents incubate the eggs and feed the young.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
