This small leaf warbler is endemic to the Canary Islands. It uses habitats from forests to high mountain scrub, as well as farms and gardens, and is usually sedentary.
It has dark olive upperparts, pale cream underparts, and a light stripe above the eye. Its short wings make the tail look long, and the sexes do not show a marked plumage difference.
It occurs from near sea level to high mountain scrub, in forests, thickets, farms, gardens, and parks. After breeding it may move, mainly to a different elevation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
