The Sickle-winged Nightjar is a small nightjar found from central and southeastern Brazil through eastern Paraguay to northern Argentina. A Cotinga paper records regional differences in movement and reports that a male observed in southeastern Argentina could not be identified by wing shape in flight.
Its plumage is light gray-brown, with females tending to be darker. In southeastern Argentina, an observed male made an exaggerated fluttering flight and could not be identified by wing shape while flying.
The paper describes birds in Paraná, and probably elsewhere in Brazil, as resident; in Argentina's Mesopotamia region they migrate north in the austral winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
