The dune tuco-tuco is a subterranean rodent of coastal dunes in Argentina. Animals on the dunes have been reported to have light blond fur.
Dune populations have blond, light-colored pelage. This contrasts with the brown phenotype reported for a related species on nearby, more vegetated sandy fields.
A study in coastal dune grassland near Necochea found that the animals ate mostly aboveground plants; belowground plant material became more important in autumn and winter. Grasses were preferred.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
