Cryptotis medellinius is consumed by Crab-eating Foxes in Colombian mountain forest near Medellín.
Surveys during 2000–2006 combined trapping with other evidence. This shrew was recorded through capture, fox scats and roadkill.
Small-mammal specimens and dietary remains were deposited in research collections. Combining captures with remains left by other animals supplied complementary evidence of an elusive forest resident.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
The 2009 inventory urged surveys of remaining forest amid regional deforestation and urbanisation. Roadkill records also identify a local concern. A regional road study proposed continued monitoring and wildlife-warning signs.
