The Lesser Goldfinch is a small finch with yellow, green, and black plumage. Flocks gather in trees and yards for seeds, and the species ranges from the western United States to the Peruvian Andes.
Males show yellow, green, and black, including a black cap. Back color varies by region: males in the western United States are often green-backed, while eastern U.S. males tend to be black-backed.
It eats mainly seeds, especially from plants in the sunflower family. Flocks use scrubby oak, cottonwood, and willow habitats and readily visit feeders.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
