This small sunbird occurs on Negros, Panay, and Guimaras in the western Visayas of the Philippines. It is recorded in forest and along forest edges; a species-level ecological dataset classifies nectar as its main food niche.
It has a fairly long, slightly curved bill, yellow underparts, and olive wings. The male has a black face, throat, and chest, a purple moustache-like stripe, and a green crown. The female is duller and lacks the yellow rump.
It is a forest bird that also uses forest edges. The database classifies its feeding niche as nectarivorous, but these sources do not provide detailed observations of feeding sites or breeding behavior.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
