About 10–11 cm long. The adult male has dark blue-gray upperparts, a white throat, blue-gray breast patches, and a yellow belly. The female has gray-olive upperparts and a pale-yellow underside.
It moves alone, in pairs, or in small family groups through tall forest trees, and descends to feed on fruit, berries, and seeds. It also takes nectar, insects, and spiders; both parents feed the chicks.
