Eversmann's hamster occurs in China, Kazakhstan, and Russia. Southern Tatarstan in Russia lies at the northwestern edge of its range, and the regional account there records variation in coat color and diet.
In the southern Tatarstan account, the coat is short and soft; the back ranges from dark brown to pale reddish or ashy sandy colors, while the belly is white.
The southern Tatarstan account says it mainly eats seeds and insects, with green plants also eaten in spring. It digs a burrow with several entrances in summer and is reported to hibernate in winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
