This fruit bat has sideways-pointing tubular nostrils and yellow spots scattered across its ears and wings. It occurs around New Guinea and on nearby islands, reaching northern Australia.
The grayish-brown back is darker along the middle, while the underside is yellowish white. Tubular nostrils project sideways, and irregular yellow spots mark the ears and wings.
At night it feeds on soft fruits and flower nectar, and by day it roosts alone on tree trunks or branches. Most breeding records come from Papua New Guinea, so the timing may differ elsewhere in its range.
