This is a gerbil species with a long tail. In Ethiopia it has been recorded in dry lowland savanna.
It is a medium-sized gerbil with reddish-brown to orange fur on its back and a white underside. Its long tail ends in a dark tuft of hair.
In Ethiopia, this species was recorded in dry lowland Somali-Masai savanna at elevations of about 200–2,000 m.
