This thrush is endemic to Makira Island in the Solomon Islands. Its ecology is poorly known, but field observers found it in tall primary forest and watched one bird search among dead leaves for invertebrates.
It has pale pink legs, a brown head, small white spots on the ear-coverts, and a black malar stripe. Its brown upperparts have two rows of small white wing spots; the breast and belly have black-edged white markings.
It inhabits tall primary forest and uses the ground and lower bushes in the undergrowth. One observed bird scratched among dead leaves to find invertebrates.
