This cisticola occurs in eastern and southern Africa, in moist grassland and near wetlands. During the breeding season, the male has a brown crown while the female keeps streaks on hers.
In breeding plumage, the male develops a complete brown crown, a black gape, and a black patch of bare skin before the eye. The female retains a streaked crown.
A regional account says it favors tall, moist grass near wetlands and is often found in scattered pairs or small family groups.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
