This large rat has dark brownish-buff upperparts and reddish fur on the throat and chest. HMW (2017) records it from coastal plains and other island habitats on Peleng Island, Indonesia.
HMW (2017) gives a head-and-body length of 233 mm and tail length of 215 mm. The upperparts are dark brownish buff and the underside dark gray with a buff tinge. The chin, throat, and chest are reddish brown; the tail is slightly shorter than the body.
HMW (2017) records coastal plains and other island habitats on Peleng Island and notes habitat loss from logging. It gives no diet or breeding record.
