The Blacksmith Thrush was recorded in Paraguay’s Atlantic Forest in October. A 2017 specimen account treated three birds under the older name Turdus nigriceps and assigned them to the eastern form subalaris.
The specimens were one adult male and two adult females. The male had a yellow bill, the females had brownish bills, and all had an orange fleshy eye ring.
The birds were recorded in forest at El Tirol only from 6 to 18 October. Fruit was found in two stomachs, and the male was in breeding condition.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
