The Black Cuckooshrike lives in woodland across eastern and southern Africa. Males occur in an all-black form and a form with yellow wing patches.
Males occur in two color forms: one has variable yellow on the wing coverts, while the other is all black. The all-black form is more common in drier woodland areas in the account.
It uses the woodland canopy, and the extent of its seasonal movements varies from year to year with rainfall. It occurs in both moist and dry woodland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
