This flowerpecker is restricted to Flores and Sumbawa. It lives in forest and wooded areas and uses fruit and flowers for food.
Males have a yellow rump patch. In females, the rump is the same colour as the back.
It eats fruit, berries, nectar and pollen. At Mbeliling on Flores, an adult brought food to two young in a pouch-shaped nest made of plant fibres secured with spider web.
The sex difference in the yellow rump patch is already present in young birds.
In specimens from Flores, wing length was 54–61 mm in 17 males and 54–59 mm in 19 females.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
