The Sumatran Frogmouth is a nocturnal bird of mountain forest on Sumatra.
The female specimen described in 1892 had reddish-brown plumage, a white collar, and white spots on the shoulder and wing feathers.
It is active at night in dense mountain forest and feeds mainly on invertebrates.
In the female specimen collected at Padang, western Sumatra, in 1837, the underparts were white with rufous feather margins, broader and darker on the breast than on the throat.
The same Padang specimen had very long ear-tuft feathers and bristles above the bill and on the chin.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
