This slit-faced bat has records from several parts of East Africa. Ear length has been used to distinguish it from close relatives, although its taxonomic status has been debated.
Reported coat color ranges from dark beige to dark brown. Kenyan specimens in the 1993 taxonomic study had forearms 39.9–43.6 mm long. The study also compared its longer ears with those of close relatives.
The Kenyan checklist summarizes records from Acacia–Commiphora scrub, sometimes near rivers, and coastal forest. Records are reported from Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, and Tanzania, but are disjunct rather than a single continuous range.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
