Berg’s tuco-tuco is a subterranean rodent of Argentina’s Dry Chaco. Besides northwestern Córdoba, one female was recorded in Salavina Department, Santiago del Estero, and identified as this species using genetic and morphological evidence.
The upper coat is sandy fawn, the sides and underside are paler, and the center of the face is dark.
On the Chaco plain of northwestern Córdoba, researchers studied this species’ burrows at 10 forest sites and 10 pastures retaining trees. Active burrows had fresh soil mounds, while unused burrows contained leaf litter and spider webs. A 2026 report identified one female captured at Quimilí Paso, in a Dry Chaco landscape of secondary forest and scrub, as this species.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
