The Toltec cotton rat occurs in eastern Mexico. Ochre-tipped back fur and a pale underside are among its described features.
The hairs on its back have dark bases and ochre tips, while the underside is cream-colored. The account describes a broad head and a tail shorter than the body.
In a survey at Zongolica, one animal was recorded in each of a maize field, secondary vegetation, and cloud forest at 500–900 m. The account notes activity by day and night and good swimming ability.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
