This medium-sized raptor lives in Madagascar's forests. It waits concealed among leaves, then glides from a perch to catch insects and small reptiles.
Adults are dark mottled brown above, except for a whitish rump. The chest is white, the belly has brown bands, and the long tail also has dark bands.
It hunts by day or at dusk, hiding in foliage at forest edges and clearings. From a concealed perch it glides to seize large insects, frogs, and chameleons.
