This marsupial has brown fur on its back with a darker patch from forehead toward rump. At Nahuelbuta in Chile, it has been recorded using an abandoned woodpecker cavity in a living tree.
The fur on its back is brown with a darker patch running from the forehead toward the rump; the fur on its underside is pale whitish. Color and patch shape vary among specimens from the same localities, and the original authors state that coat color alone is not diagnostic for this species.
