The Cape golden mole lives by digging underground tunnels. It has a pointed head and sturdy forefeet, and inhabits sandy areas of southwestern South Africa.
Its body is streamlined, with a pointed head and short forefeet bearing stout claws. It has no external tail; dark brown fur can look green or violet at different angles of light.
It spends much of its time in underground tunnels and forages at the surface or in shallow tunnels for insects and other small animals, detecting vibrations in the soil made by prey.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
