The Dot-eared Coquette is a small hummingbird recorded from northern Brazil and along the Amazon. Gould’s account extended its range to the upper Amazon in Peru.
The male has a chestnut-red head and crest, bronzy-green upperparts and throat, and white neck plumes tipped with luminous green. The female is golden green above with a rust-red throat.
Oiseaux.net classifies it as a sedentary aerial nectar-feeder. Gould’s historical account said its habits were then unknown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
