The Subtropical Pygmy-Owl is a small owl recorded in the eastern Andean foothills and subtropical forests. White spots on its head and wings help identify it.
It has a dark grayish-brown head with white spots and spotted wings. Its tail is relatively short, and the underside is white to gray.
Its song is usually three notes, with the gaps lengthening toward the end. In a Colombian observation, it perched in the subcanopy.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
