Orange patches on both sides of the nose and a black-and-white moustache mark this burrowing rodent. It lives in colonies in moist grass patches within the Patagonian steppe.
Its tawny back is mixed with black hairs, and each side of the nose has a bright orange fur patch. A black moustache above white bristles and narrow, flat ears are further identifying features.
It is active by day and eats grasses and sedges near burrow entrances. Colonies have been observed in which several adults share burrow systems and a nest site.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
