The Cape elephant shrew lives in rocky parts of South Africa and feeds mainly on ants and other insects. Its long, flexible snout is a notable feature.
Its back is gray to gray-brown, with black-tipped hairs that give it a grizzled look; the sides and underside are paler gray. It has a long, thin snout and broad, upright ears.
It shelters among boulders and in rock crevices and feeds mainly on ants and other insects. Some observations also describe it feeding near flowers and drinking nectar.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
