A small woodland bird with bright yellow underparts. It ranges from South to Southeast Asia and searches among leaves and branches for insects.
In breeding plumage, males show a conspicuous black head and wings. Females are greener, and plumage varies with sex and season.
The Common Iora searches leafy trees for insects. In 2022, a survey in Banjar City, West Java, Indonesia, recorded birds and habitat across 18 cemetery green spaces.
The survey found 23 bird species overall. Common Ioras were recorded at Dipatiukur and Santiong cemeteries. Comparing the site lists showed how birds used individual green spaces within the built-up city.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
