This gerbil is known from Jebel Marra in Sudan. Field records describe a dark back, white underside, and long tail.
The back has long, silky dark brown and chestnut fur, while the underside is white. The long tail ends in a dark tuft.
During his 1964 survey, Happold caught several individuals and recorded the species in the crater and at Taratonga. He reported that it lives in the pumice-stone walls at Taratonga.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
