Octopus
- California Two-spot Octopus Octopus bimaculoides
Its eight arms have rows of suckers on the inner surface. In a study using ten wild-caught animals, researchers recorded 16,563 arm deformations in two hours of video.
- Cyane's Octopus Octopus cyanea
When hunting, it can spread the skin between its arms into a conspicuous white web over coral or rocks. In group hunts recorded at Eilat in 2018, goatfish drove exploration while the octopus influenced whether the group moved.
- Common Atlantic Octopus Octopus vulgaris
Its large eyes scan the surroundings. The pupil narrows to a horizontal slit in bright light and opens into a round shape in dim light. In a Bay of Naples study, interest in new objects was linked with success at opening a food puzzle box.
