Japanese Terrier

Temperament
Reserved, Independent, Curious
[3]Background and classification
Developed from imported Smooth Fox Terriers and small local dogs, it became a companion in Japanese port cities such as Kobe and Yokohama. Planned breed development followed in the early Showa period.
[1]Appearance and coat
Small and clean-cut, it has an exceptionally short coat of about 2 mm. The clear body outline contrasts with wire-haired terriers that may share similar white-based markings.
[1]Coat and comparisons
The head combines black, tan and white; the white body has black or tan markings. The distribution between head and body matters alongside the number of colours.
